How we read it

What we read, how it was sorted, and what it cannot tell you

What was asked. “sweetgreen.com”: we read it as Sweetgreen (salad restaurant). The rivals were picked for this sample.

The reviews. Per place, Google's own rating, count and star split from a Google Maps search, and its newest reviews, up to 100 from the last 180 days, in the language each was written. 10 of the 14 Sweetgreen locations Google Maps listed for Washington, DC were read, the ones in the District itself with the most Google reviews; not read: sweetgreen - Healthy Salads, Wraps, and Bowls, 575 12th Rd S Ste B2; sweetgreen - Healthy Salads, Wraps, and Bowls, 1800 N Lynn St; sweetgreen - Healthy Salads, Wraps, and Bowls, 1304 4th St NE and others; each rival place is the nearest of that chain to a location, within 8 km. Owner replies (the owner's response Google returns with each review) to the 1-3★ and the 4-5★ reviews read: Sweetgreen 47 of 52 and 81 of 95; CAVA 22 of 25 and 138 of 509; Chopt 18 of 20 and 241 of 402; Just Salad 13 of 14 and 213 of 218. Reviewer names and owners' replies are not kept, only whether a reply exists.

Dates. Sweetgreen on Google Maps 8 May 2026 to 31 Oct 2026; CAVA on Google Maps 3 Jun 2026 to 4 Nov 2026; Chopt on Google Maps 8 May 2026 to 4 Nov 2026; Just Salad on Google Maps 8 May 2026 to 4 Nov 2026; read November 4, 2026.

The themes. A model (Gemini) named one set of themes from a sample of the reviews, added themes for reviews it left out, then read each of the 1,007 reviews and marked the themes it says, up to three; a second pass reread each against its theme and kept only those that say it. 849 of the 1,007 reviews are in a theme. The counts are exact tallies of that sorting; the sorting is a reading, not a measurement.

The quotes. Every quote is one review, stored as written and shown whole. No reviewer names. Reviews that name an account, carry a link, or name or describe a private person are counted but never quoted (470 left out for naming a person).

What it cannot tell you. Google reviews come from people who chose to write one; 25% of those we read give stars and no words, so themes rest on the ones with words. Google removes some reviews and can't show visits. A share is of the reviews with words we read, not of customers.

The evidence. The HTML version of this report lists every review we read, by theme, with a link to the place on Google Maps.

6042026-06-04Chopt · Google Maps · 5★The CHOPT team at the Rosslyn, VA location are amazing. The friendly, professional service, quality of the food, and cleanliness of restaurant is top notch! I’ve only been a few times, but the staff not only remembered my typical order (I like my SW beef salad a little less spicy) they remembered my name when I ordered! Just when it seems friendly, competent customer service has fallen short of expectations these days, the CHOPT staff at Rosslyn are examples that it still exists!

8802026-09-24Just Salad · Google Maps · 2★It was my first time here. I ordered a Peruvian chicken market plate to go. The staff was really nice and attentive, but unfortunately, the food was terrible. The rice was clumpy and had no flavor, the sweet potatoes and chicken were too burned, and the corn wasn’t tasty either. Overall, the flavors just didn’t work together

22026-10-21Sweetgreen · Google Maps · 5★Walked in and picked up my Molly’s chicken salad wrap with no problem. Parking is a little hairy, so I took off an atmosphere star for that. Food was top notch. That was my first sweetgreen wrap and I will definitely get another one!

The menu has so many healthy options and everything felt crisp and flavorful. It is a great spot to grab a quick lunch when you want something that tastes good and is good for you too. I would definitely come back again for another bowl.

392026-09-08Sweetgreen · Google Maps · 3★[delivery] We've got a member on the team who's a big sweetgreen fan, and while I haven't fully come around I must admit that I've largely been impressed. Sweetgreen does have some toppings which are pretty good (e.g. the mushroom in the mushroom shwarma), but they're true advantage lies in their dressing, like the miso ginger.
632026-05-25Sweetgreen · Google Maps · 5★Very fresh bowls. Tried the new salmon which was great. Highly recommend

662026-09-17Sweetgreen · Google Maps · 5★First time customer, certainly not the last. I had the harvest bowl and it was absolutely amazing. Don't let kale throw you off. Mine had sweet potatoes, apple, feta, and a couple other things, all for about 750 calories. Highly recommend.

972026-10-12CAVA · Google Maps · 4★I used to give this restaurant five stars. They are graded down to four stars now because they don't cook their lentils properly. At first I thought the lentils were drying out, but after today I believe that they are not cooking them enough. So sad given how good everything else is.

2742026-09-28CAVA · Google Maps · 3★I ordered the brown rice along with my meal, and unfortunately, the rice was very disappointing. It was both hard and dry in some places, while also feeling overly wet in others. I’m not sure how it was prepared, but the texture and quality were not what I expected. The other food was good, and I enjoyed the meal overall. However, since I spent more than $20, I expected the rice to be prepared properly. I hope the restaurant can improve the quality and consistency of the rice in the future.

222026-07-09Sweetgreen · Google Maps · 1★Went in round 5:45 pm on a Thursday evening. Staff was all in the back. When they came out from the back I asked if they were open. One girl giggled and didn’t answer me. The other took our order. No napkins in dispensers and very little cutlery. When we got our food half the veggies were frozen. Staff unfriendly, disinterested, and honestly not up to and of the standards I am used to at other sweet greens. Maybe just an off night. We didn’t finish our food an we just left. I Do not recommend.

It was argula/wild rice, spicy broccoli, roasted sweet potatoes, parmesean, sesame noodles, fresh squeezed lime juice, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, and their Miso Salmon! Fresh, delicious, and affordable. The portions are huge! It will easily be three meals! And with the grains and green type is it possible. The selection is amazing! 352026-10-31Sweetgreen · Google Maps · 3★Good but consistently have a ratio problem - whenever I get greens and rice, it’s all greens no rice - I dug out so much kale today and this is supposed to be 1/2 rice 1/2 kale
472026-05-16Sweetgreen · Google Maps · 2★The harvest bowl was okay, yet the server seemed to give less of the ingredients than I have experienced at other locations. I did not finish my bowl, so unfortunately, I would say it was a below average Sweetgreen.
502026-10-08Sweetgreen · Google Maps · 1★Make sure you watch what they put in your salad. They sprinkled on kale on my “kale” caesar salad, didn’t give me a double of parmesan crisps or lemon. Also, the $15 salad hardly filled the bowl…

512026-09-22Sweetgreen · Google Maps · 1★Ordered the steak mezze bowl from doordash. Opened the lid to find out they genuinely gave me barely any steak cucumbers or hummus. A homeless person prob gets more protein in a meal than this. How are u stingy w cucumbers and hummus that stuff is cheap. Ive never had such a bad experience with sweetgreen at other locations ever. But this dc one, terrible.
532026-09-03Sweetgreen · Google Maps · 3★Got the new chicken cesar wrap it was okay, needed more Dressing the portion I feel like could of been a little bigger, the Strawberry Mint Lemonade was terrific.
592026-07-24Sweetgreen · Google Maps · 1★I ordered crispy rice bowl, for my surprise they just added the base of greens and AddONs thats it. They didn’t make the real bowl. So i went to them and notified the issue and they made me a fresh bowl. But honestly the quantity is so less compared to any other sweet green location i visited. Being a location with students around, this seems like a lazy money making location, rather than serving customers. They didn’t even apologize me.

2472026-09-05CAVA · Google Maps · 1★Really bad service. I asked the lady for a bit more rice since she kept putting half scoops and she rolled her eyes. Same thing with the protein, they shake the spoon too and put only half of a scoop each time. Usually Cava is my to go to, but not coming to this location. Plus it’s more expensive than other places, somehow my bowl was $15.26. There is plenty of other great food options right across the street, no need to come here.

5282026-05-27Chopt · Google Maps · 1★Wow. I picked a salad and at the very end it was double the cost! Never once was I told adding chicken costs $10 MORE — I literally found 3 small pieces- that’s it. Skip this and go to Chipotle. $23 salad where they won’t give you any extra dressing.
5862026-07-13Chopt · Google Maps · 2★Ordered a modified wrap and paid an extra $2.20 for avocado. Received yhe standard wrap, haphazardly thrown together so all the filling came out as soon as I unwrapped it. It was also 90%lettuce and barely any steak.

7392026-08-26Chopt · Google Maps · 4★Good food reasonable prices. They skimp a little on the protein (chicken, salmon, etc) but go heavy on veggies. Great lunch spot

7662026-09-16Chopt · Google Maps · 2★Food is good but sometimes not fresh. But what REAlly pisses me off is that the dressing is sold separately! If you drench your salad in line with dressing they don’t care but they are upcharging 90 cent per tiny side cup of dressing and they’re half filled! Ridiculous marketing tactic from just a greedy and money hungry company that won’t let you put your own dressing on your salad without charging you for it. Yall don’t even CHOP the salad anymore! I WONT be coming back as these decisions make dining here expensive and a terrible process.

242026-06-20Sweetgreen · Google Maps · 1★Noise was so loud that it was comical to get my build your own meal put together/ there was no clear communication . Less than half of my meal came out as asked. Didn’t matter, the core item - the protein - was inedible (rubbery) so I tossed the entire bowl after a few bites. So much for trying healthy.

552026-05-30Sweetgreen · Google Maps · 1★Disappointing experience at Sweetgreen. I placed a pickup order that included a steak item. When I arrived, the employee who assisted me seemed unfriendly and not very welcoming. I received my order, went home, and then discovered that the steak was completely missing. Because the order was not checked properly before being handed to me, I had to make another trip back to the restaurant to get the missing item. This was inconvenient and a waste of time. I hope the team pays more attention to order accuracy and customer service in the future.

702026-07-21Sweetgreen · Google Maps · 1★Checked out the sweetgreen on a recent trip to Washington, excited for a fresh and clean salad dinner. Unfortunately, sweetgreen did not live up to my expectations; the salad was filled to the brim with greens, had almost no ingredients, and was even missing the goat cheese. In short, I was essentially served a bowl of kale with dressing. When I tried to call the restaurant, I was repeatedly redirected to online customer service by an automated voice. Do not recommend! I won’t be visiting sweetgreen anytime soon.

I used to come here weekly for lunch on work days, but the last couple of orders that I've placed online were incorrect. You can't really adress it with the employees, because no one speaks English.
